Copy IT sponsor Finn UK Travellers Series 2016

The British Finn fleet is delighted to be returning to Alton Water Sailing Club over the weekend of 16-17 April. Following on from last year’s highly successful British Inland Championship, this year’s event is once again being sponsored by Copy IT Digital Solutions Limited of Ipswich and Seamark Nunn of Trimley St Martin.

The Finn is one of the singlehanded dinghies used at the Olympics and while no current Olympians are expected at Alton Water, there will be a number of young, aspiring, next generation Olympians, as the event is a key part of the RYA National Ranking series, which aims to talent-spot sailors with potential and allocate funding. Some will have just returned from a month’s training in Spain at various international regattas.

Several local sailors will be taking part with Copy IT’s Jerry Andrews hoping to hold off Will Patten from Woolverstone and last year’s highest place local sailor, Robert Deaves, who finished sixth.

The regatta also forms part of the UK Travellers Series and is a required regatta for the British Finn Association sponsored U23 sailors. The British class association provides funding support to several young sailors to enable them to get on the rung towards international stardom.

Six races are planned over the two-day event, which should see some fierce competition on Alton Water between up to 30 Finn sailors from all over the country.
